Our private lake makes for an amazing natural space to host summer camp and we’re creating a menu that reflects that connection to nature by sourcing the most nutritious ingredients we can, and incorporating local producers where we’re able. So if you bring a positive presence to your interactions with others and a desire to put the health of our campers first, we're excited that you're considering taking the lead over our campers nutrition journeys at Borealis Adventure Camp in 2024!

 

Our Food Service Director, with planning support from the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director, will be responsible for planning and leading our food service needs at camp.

 

As the Food Service Director, you will lead the development of our camp menu, including the sourcing, ordering,  pick-up (if needed) and inventory management of ingredients and whole menu items required to prepare and serve two hot meals daily, plus a continental style breakfast, and snacks as required. You will prepare and deliver meals in a timely manner that keeps camp programming on schedule.

 

Applicants for this position will need to be comfortable with the following;

 

  • Menu Planning

  • Food Safety Best Practices

  • Inventory Management

  • Staff Supervision

 

The following experience and certifications are required or preferred for this position, with items that camp is willing to train for noted in brackets beside those items. 

 

  • Safe Food Handlers Certification (willing to train)

  • Post-Secondary Culinary Studies (preferred)

  • Workplace Culinary Leadership Experience (preferred)

  • Able to obtain clear Vulnerable Sector Background Check

 

Important Dates

  • December 31, 2023 - Early Sign-On Period - Any staff member that commits to a contract by this date will be provided a $250 bonus upon completion of their contract

  • June 3 - June 28, 2024 - Spring Staff - Camp Prep & Planning (Optional)

  • July 7 - 13, 2024 - Staff Training Week (Mandatory)

  • July 14 - August 17, 2024 - Camp Sessions 1 through 5 (Flexible)

 

Compensation & Time Off

  • $550 per week, June 3 - June 28, 2024 (weekends off - Friday at 4:00 pm to Monday at 8:00 am)

  • $650 per week, July 7 - August 17, 2024 (minimum 30 hours per week off, including a minimum of one 24 hour period that includes an overnight)

  • Room is covered by camp throughout Spring Staff

  • Room & board is covered by camp throughout Staff Training and Camp Sessions

  • $250 early sign-on bonus (before December 31, 2023 - paid upon completion of contract)

  • $250 referral bonus (refer someone who is hired and completes their contract)

  • $250 returning staff bonus (paid at the completion of your contract)

 

Contract extension opportunities may exist for the month of May and the last two weeks of August to assist with site set up and closing.
