MEDICAL
DIRECTOR

Our incredible camp needs a heartbeat that keeps the wellbeing of everyone else in mind and we're excited that you're considering taking the lead over that integral part of the experience for our campers and staff at Borealis Adventure Camp for the summer of 2024!

 

Our Medical Director, with planning support from the Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director and Camp Doctor (not on site), will be responsible for planning and leading our camps medical needs.

 

As the Medical Director, you will oversee the Health Centre, including approved medication inventory and dispensing, camper medication storage and dispensing, as well as record keeping for all visits to the Health Centre or First-Aid delivered in the field. You will make decisions, with assistance as needed from the Camp Directors, as to when an injury needs to be treated further by health care professionals in an off-site facility. You will also help to train and prepare the designated medic for overnight out-trips.

 

Applicants for this position will need to be comfortable with the following;

 

  • Decision Making Under Pressure

  • First Aid Best Practices

  • Medication Inventory Management

 

The following experience and certifications are required or preferred for this position, with items that camp is willing to train for noted in brackets beside those items. 

 

  • First Aid & CPR (willing to train)

  • Wilderness First Aid (willing to train)

  • Post Secondary Education in Health Studies (preferred)

  • Able to obtain clear Vulnerable Sector Background Check

 

Important Dates

  • December 31, 2023 - Early Sign-On Period - Any staff member that commits to a contract by this date will be provided a $250 bonus upon completion of their contract

  • June 3 - June 28, 2024 - Spring Staff - Camp Prep & Planning (Optional)

  • July 7 - 13, 2024 - Staff Training Week (Mandatory)

  • July 14 - August 17, 2024 - Camp Sessions 1 through 5 (Flexible)

 

Compensation & Time Off

  • $550 per week, June 3 - June 28, 2024 (weekends off - Friday at 4:00 pm to Monday at 8:00 am)

  • $650 per week, July 7 - August 17, 2024 (minimum 30 hours per week off, including a minimum of one 24 hour period that includes an overnight)

  • Private Room is covered by camp throughout Spring Staff

  • Private Room & board is covered by camp throughout Staff Training and Camp Sessions

  • $250 early sign-on bonus (before December 31, 2023 - paid upon completion of contract)

  • $250 referral bonus (refer someone who is hired and completes their contract)

  • $250 returning staff bonus (paid at the completion of your contract)

 

Contract extension opportunities may exist for the month of May and the last two weeks of August to assist with site set up and closing.
