TRIPPING
DIRECTOR
We’ve got a tripper's paradise at our fingertips here at Borealis Adventure Camp, so if you’ve got an adventurous spirit with a penchant for positivity and safety, we’d love to hear from you about becoming our Tripping Director for the summer of 2024!
Our Tripping Director, with planning support from the Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director, Medical Director and Food Service Director, will be responsible for planning and leading our camp programming related to canoeing, survival skills, and overnight canoe tripping.
As the Tripping Director, you will lead canoeing/water safety, fire-building/safety, shelter building, and wilderness survival/safety sessions for campers during your time at base camp. While many of the campers you will lead through these skill building sessions will be preparing for their out-trips, some may simply have interest in learning/participating in one or two of these skills sessions.
We operate on a Camper’s Choice programming model, where campers choose what activity they will do during each session block, so that they get what they want out of the camp experience. In the case of the skills sessions led by the Tripping Director, campers who have indicated they would like to go on the overnight trip will be asked to commit to the out-trip sessions at the outset of their week at camp so that they are adequately prepared to go on the overnight trip. However, should a camper decide at any time during the lead up to the trip that they no longer wish to commit to the necessary skill development to go on the trip, they will simply be removed from the trip roster.
During our six night sessions, the Tripping Director will lead small groups of campers, who have voluntarily chosen the out-trip and completed the appropriate training sessions, on a single night canoe and camping trip over established canoe tripping routes.
